MANTA HALF MARATHON

The Santa Barbara International Marathon and Half Marathon is a road race in Southern California, offering marathon and half marathon distances centered around Goleta and Santa Barbara. The marathon begins at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta and concludes at Santa Barbara City College. The full marathon serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier. The event's origins trace back to 1965, making it one of California's early marathons, and it was later re-established after a 24-year hiatus. The course starts in Goleta, proceeds towards Isla Vista's outskirts, winds through residential areas, and then enters Santa Barbara. Participants encounter a significant incline late in the race before descending towards the finish at the City College stadium, with views of the Pacific Ocean. The initial race was established by local distance runners, with its first running featuring 27 starters and 17 finishers, lacking aid stations and road closures. In the renewed series, the half marathon has attracted more participants, with one recorded edition showing more than double the number of half marathon finishers compared to marathon finishers.

The Breakup Duathlon

The Breakup Duathlon is a modest run-bike-run event in Fairbanks, Alaska, taking place in May on and around the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. The name reflects Alaska's spring breakup period, with melting ice and snow, breaking river ice, and the warming effect of extended northern daylight. The race structure is straightforward: a 3.1-mile run, a 13.1-mile bike ride, and a 1.2-mile trail run, totaling approximately 25.8 km. All transitions occur at the UAF Patty, bringing participants back to the same campus location between segments. The event caps participation at 99 individuals, with its triathlon counterpart selling out annually. Organizers target this event toward individuals new to multisport racing, athletes seeking cross-training opportunities, and those desiring a new challenge before committing to longer distances. It is a duathlon because the UAF pool and a backup pool in North Pole are unavailable, necessitating a run in place of the swim.

Sourdough Starter Triathlon

The Sourdough Starter Triathlon is a sprint triathlon held at North Lake within the Chena Lakes Recreation Area near Fairbanks, Alaska. Beginning at noon, the participant limit is 99, making it a local, personal event rather than a large gathering. This race is part of the Arctic Triathlon Series, intended for athletes progressing from the Breakup Triathlon, particularly those new to open-water swimming. The swim is a single 500-yard loop around buoys in calm, shallow water. The 6.7-mile bike course follows dirt trails and roads. The 3.1-mile run proceeds around the pond and along a two-lane track to the river and back. This event is distinct from the former Sourdough Triathlon, a half-Iron distance race in Chatanika that concluded after 34 years. Series participants gather for an end-of-season awards event at HooDoo Brewing Company, offering a complimentary beer to those wearing Arctic Tri Series apparel.

Vinteren holder begge sportsgrene i gang i stedet for at lukke dem ned.
